Uni Room Tour

Heyo!

I've moved house again, and as many of you know with moving comes a huge deal of stress. I had luckily packed up the majority of my stuff from my old house in advance, so I wasn't as stressed as I could have been, but I was stressed nonetheless. This year, my wonderful mum came and helped me move in properly, she did help the year before, but this time she very kindly helped me clean as I moved out, and as I moved in, helping me pack and unpack the last few bits and double-checking I hadn't forgotten anything.

Getting back to the subject of the post, I moved house and unlike last year I actually want to show off my room (and maybe my house, the communal areas at a later point) because I feel a lot happier with it all. I had a really good room last year, it was the biggest in the house, but our feelings towards the house and the terrible landlord stopped me (that, and the mould and the fleas and lack of hot water for the first month or so!) I did a post all about my room in halls in my first year of university, so feel free to go and check that out But this year, I am in a lovely house and my room feels cosy, warm and inviting, and now I've been to IKEA it's finished, so I thought I would invite you all in to my bedroom via the internet in blog-post-medium, enjoy!

I got this unit from IKEA and it's perfect for storing my records and extra books that don't fit on the shelves in my room (or my house, for eagle-eyed readers I do have way more books than shown in my room, they're all in the lounge!) and holding my record player, framed Totoro artwork and my new cactus and candles. It's also been decorated with fairy lights as is the Beckie way!

My bed is super cosy, it has the bedpost bits at the end which I always wanted as a kid and I got myself a memory foam mattress toper so I get really good sleep now - something I feel I deserve in my final year of uni! I have my soft toy army on my bed too but I kept them out of the shot otherwise I could be here forever! You can also see here my little IKEA stool that I am using as a bedside table, I am going to make a cover for it from leftover bits of wool like I did with my chair cover, it's going to look way better than it does now! My huge wardrobe is really handy as it fits all my clothes and things in, such as bedding and Christmas presents as well as everything else. I put fairy lights around the top of my bed so I can read in bed before I go to sleep and my little cloud is dangling off my radiator because it's really nice and I can dangle important things from it when I need to. Also featured is the unicorn nightlight Maddie got me a couple of years ago, and he's perfect for when I need to get up at night as he's bright without being obnoxiously bright.

I originally had this director's chair in my room, but it was so low down I couldn't sit at my desk properly to get any work done, so I swapped it for this white chair which is way better! I crocheted this cover for it because it's metal and it's really cold when you sit on it, and I felt I deserved to have a warm seat for the hours I am going to be sat at my desk revising, writing, and generally crying over third year work. I used lots of scrap wool I had bought over the years (which I now store in my green drawers you can just see behind the chair) to make it, and attached it with a little bit of leftover green and it's doing the job so far!

I also made this cushion a while back, and found when I am at the desk for long periods of time, it's super handy as it pads it out and props me upright at the same time. I am also loving the granny-square chic of it all, and am also very aware that my love of woollen craft isn't normal for a 20 year old, and yet here we are! This is very much my brand/aesthetic, and I love it.

This is my desk, and my very big monitor which is perfect for uni work (and also for watching TV or films in bed!) It's really handy having two screens when I am essay writing as I can have my sources on one, and write the essay on the other. It has also been really good for editing work, and working on InDesign and Photoshop as the screen is really bright and has special setting for different uses like a gaming mode, text mode, photo mode and enhanced graphics too! I was going to do a huge tidy of my desk, but I thought I should just show it as it is on a daily basis. No desk should ever be immaculate as this indicates the person is never using it - and that's not what a desk is for. I've been busy planning things and doing dissertation research, so I've been using my desk for that and reading in my bed in an attempt to make the desk tidier and far less chaotic. I've also put bat fairy lights on the top, so they look like they're flying together which makes me feel very happy.

My two shelves have been maxed out to full capacity, because I wanted to have lots of bits in my room to make it feel homey - if I had more shelves they would be stacked to the ceiling with books I can assure you of that! I would go through explaining everything, but it's an array of my favourite books, both new and old, and games, films and other random bits and bobs. Below my two shelves is the shelving on my desk, which is films and other little bits people have given me over the years which I love. I love having little bits like my lucky cat and Sally bobble-head, because they're all gifts and remind me of the people who gave them to me, and they make me feel right at home in the city I'm studying in over 100 miles away from home.

That's it for my room tour, because I have a pretty full room and most of my floor space is my bed and other furniture! I also didn't feel the need to show you every single thing I have because that's a bit overkill. I love my room, and I'm glad I've been able to share it with you all.

B x
