September Favourites

Heyo!

I got up to rather a lot in September, I came back to Bath and moved the final bits into my new uni house ready for the term to start. I have adjusted back to student life after a month of being back at home again, which meant lots of laundry and trying to find a sleeping pattern. Whilst I may have struggled to obtain and maintain a cohesive sleeping schedule, I was able to see lots of friends again, read books, listen to new music and watch TV as well as get cracking with other hobbies and uni-related tasks. I was very productive here, and I even lost a bit of weight which made me pretty happy!

With everything going on, I was able to take full advantage of all the great things that came out in the month, so without delay here are a few of my favourite things about and from September!

Music

There was again lots of great music released this month, but I thought I would hone in on two albums that really grabbed my attention and made me fall in love with the bands all over again.

Wolf Alice - Visions Of A Life

This album can be viewed as a follow-up from the band's explosive debut album My Love Is Cool back in 2015, echoing the same messages but also exploring some of the ideas and concepts the band experimented with on that record. The album is loud, proud and screams best album of the year, with fans and critics alike calling for them to be hailed best British band of the year. I truly believe the album is every bit as good as their previous one, and would even go as far to argue it is better, showing the growth and development of the band without losing who they are or the sound we've all grown to love. I want to do an album review on this so I will try and be brief, but go and listen to this album and bask in its glory.

The Killers - Wonderful Wonderful

I will sing the praises of this band until the day I die. Not many bands can make me feel this way, but I've loved them since day one so the fact I am seeing them next month feels so surreal. The album is the fifth studio album by the American rockers and their seventh album to date. It comes after a five year break without them, and they were hard years for fans, but the album was well worth the wait. Again, I want to do an album review for this somewhere, and I want to avoid simply gushing about this band so I will try and keep it short and sweet. If you listen to only one song from the album that isn't 'The Man' (a bop I already recommended in my August Favourites post) then go and listen to 'Run For Cover', it's a lively, energetic song that make you want to dance and reminds you exactly who they are, and establishes they're here to stay.

TV

I have been watching a lot of TV, but I want to keep this to September releases so I'm just going to give a little summary of the two things I've really loved, and I hope you either already love, or will love soon enough!

Five Foot Two

This was a feature-length documentary all about Lady Gaga, her struggles, her performances, her life and everything you don't get to see. It really captures who she is as a person, where she's coming from and what she wants to achieve and do with her career and also her life. She opens up about many different issues in her life, and it was so refreshing to see someone in the public eye talk and show so much. She is incredibly open about everything, allowing the cameras to capture her at her worst so we can truly appreciate her at her best. I think it has started a conversation about the wellbeing of performers, people in the spotlight and high-profile celebrities and helps fans to humanise them. These people are not above feeling things and needing support and time to themselves, so I thought it was a beautiful way for her to interact with and to show her fans both the creative process of creating her latest album, but also showing she is human. I loved this, and feel any fans of the mother monster herself would too!

BoJack Horseman

I've already spoken about this show before so if you want a rundown then check out my old post featuring it here so I don't have to repeat myself! The fourth season of the show was launched at the beginning of September, and I started and finished it all on the same day - I'm terrible I know! The show has again tackled such heavy issues and really established itself with this new season as one of the best animated series around. It dares to go where other shows fear, and does so with gusto, lulling you in with a foolish and jokey premise and leaves you heartbroken. Within the latest season, we see our favourites have to come to terms with huge changes in their lives, and this in turn sees them develop further, and we find ourselves rooting for them more and more (or less and less if there's one you really can't stand!) I have found the show to be something I can watch in any mood, but after recommending it to my friend Bronte I found that maybe it would be a good idea to break it up a bit as it can be heavy to some people at times. It's a very good show, and the latest season does nothing but confirm that. If you have not already seen this show then please do, especially if you feel like you're a bit lost because these characters are too, and it might help take your mind off of things.

I hope you've enjoyed this little summary of some of the things from September I really liked. There are more things I loved that I am hoping to talk about in other posts, so until then have a look at some of these and hopefully something will tickle your fancy!
