My Uni Room Tour

Hi everyone!

As I've already said before and I'm sure you're all aware, I'm a student- to be more precise, I'm what is known among fellow students as a 'fresher'. This means that I am in my very first year of university, and because I chose to go to a university over three hours travel-time away from my hometown that I live in halls. If you're not sure what halls are, it's like student accommodation (usually on campus) where you get housed with other students you've more than likely never met before (daunting I know) and you live with them in your flat/townhouse, and you get to mingle with lots of other students who also live in the same accommodation block. It may not sound great, but from my experience it's been bloomin' brilliant! I have heard absolute horror stories about people's experiences with their flatmates so I am so glad I share a flat with three (it was four, but one moved away unfortunatley) lovely humans! I live off-campus in Twerton Mill and it's the first year it's been open, so it's like a double-y new experience.

My uni room - complete with Macbook Pro, soft toys, record player, fairy lights, knitting supplies, books beyond belief and a box full of snacks for when going to my kitchen and cooking food just doesn't sound appealing to me at all
I share a kitchen with my flatmates and I have my own double bedroom with en-suite (any student knows that this is a luxury and should never be taken for granted) and I will miss my room so so much when I move into the house we have planned for the next academic year. So I thought for the benefit of my family and friends who haven't visited me but want to know what it's like where I live, and for anyone who's considering Twerton Mill or student accommodation anywhere really, I would do a kind of 'room/flat tour' post. I have changed my room over the year (it fluctuates from being hella tidy, to a general tip depending on how much overtime I've done at work and how hectic my uni schedule has been!) Twerton Mill is really modern, and looks very aesthetically pleasing from the outside - I was very lucky to get the chance to live here, even if it was the most expensive accommodation the uni had to offer!

My bedroom is my happy place, and I knew I would have to get it just right otherwise it just wouldn't feel like home! I moved in one day later than all my flatmates and the majority of people who moved into Twerton Mill, so I had to unpack quickly and catch up! It took me two weeks to get my room just right, but I always change it up a bit. I also have waaaaay too much stuff (as you can probably tell!) but it makes my room feel a lot cosier and it makes me happier knowing I am surrounded by my favourite things and happy memories (and beautiful beautiful vinyl)

My room before I moved the TV out, it was proving quite dominant and also aided my procrastination far too much!

My bed is my heaven, there's no other way of phrasing it! I cover it with my soft toys (no judgement please) because I've always had them and my bed looks almost naked without them all and they've all got meanings and high sentimental value to me. I finished the blanket on the bed very very recently and I made it all myself - it's like a child to me and every square is unique and feels incredible if I do say so myself and I take great pride in sprawling across it when revision proves too much for me

This blanket looks pretty cool and is so so comfy and warm! Knowing I made it all myself makes me feel like a proud parent

Pretty much every gig I've ever been to, and some special photos and memories make this wall my fave
My desk is always cluttered, because I am constantly using it to do uni work, revision, crafting little odds and bods and I write a lot of things there. I had my TV and Xbox in my room until recently, so it was very very crowded! I have all sorts of books and notes over my desk because being an English student means restless nights and nightmares about literary theories and poetry (Pope becoming a recurring nightmare!) My record player sits at the other end though, and it's always nice to listen to my vinyl as I do my work (Spotify has nothing on original Bowie vinyl) I store all my vinyl under my desk in these cool old-school cases I've found in junk shops in Brighton and Worthing but I reckon I'll need another soon because I keep finding gems in charity shops here!

This is probably the tidiest you will ever see my desk looking - I know it will be covered in notes and books come tonight!
My record player is like a child to me - I am so protective over it it hurts, but it makes me so happy (as does Bowie vinyl)

The view from my window is pretty awful (I recently had a weird encounter with a goose outside my window and as a result one of my cacti fell out of the window and the other died RIP Megan, gone yet not forgotten) But it's nice being so close to the river, even if it means I randomly see people walking past my room when I'm studying or binging Hell's Kitchen in my pyjamas

The empty bottles of alcohol are just a typical student thing - I like the Bali one and the vodka one has 5p's in it (not an alcoholic, just a student, please no judgement) Also my cactus looks lonely as heck so I may buy him a friend soon

My pin board is pretty cool, but I found that I didn't really have much space due to my huuge posters of Middle Earth and Morrissey (I'm not even sorry) but I got this really nice hanging thing from Tiger ages ago and I dangle necklaces and headphones from it all the time

Middle Earth and Morrissey are the ways to my heart, also bonus points if anyone spotted Year 11 Lydia from Venice

My book case is above my bed, which is a bit weird if I'm honest because I am a traditionalist, but it's pretty nice in regards to the modern feel the building has. I don't even have half of my books at uni with me yet I've managed to fill this one up as well as the little one by my bedside table (whoopsy!) so yeah, that's a thing. I also have these really nice fairly lights around my bookcase which create a really nice cosy feel in the evenings and at night, and film nights are always so nice! They're also bright enough that I can read a book in bed without having the main light on!

It may look like an absolute shambles, but I know where everything is (all the pretty books make my heart happy)

My bathroom is really nice, it's all brand new and it's so refreshing knowing that I'm the first person to have this room. I have kept it clean all year so whoever has my room next year, you're welcome! It's quite small but it's nice to have my own so I can have 2am showers if I want, or if I need to go to toilet I don't have to wait for someone to finish, which is also amazing for hangovers, if you feel ill, if you regret eating all that food or just if you enjoy long showers and browsing around on social media on the toilet! (don't act like you don't do any of those things, we've all been there!)

I've actually had people request to see my bathroom...

My kitchen is really nice, like really nice! I love cooking and baking in here, and it's turned out to be a really nice communal space for us all to enjoy and use. We changed the layout because it was so anti-social and we had dead space at the end of the kitchen that nobody was using. Whereas now, it's perfect for socialising, watching films as a flat and with friends, and having a dance mat or twister session at 1am. It's great for parties, gatherings, generally hanging out or getting absolutely annihilated at Monopoly (@ Trey)

Our kitchen looks really nice, but the TV and games consoles now mean any sleep cycle we had is now well and truly gone
I stood on the table to take this one, natural born rebel standing (now sitting) right here - it's a bit messy, but we're students!
So there it is, my flat and room in all its glory, I guess? I move out soon and wanted to show people before it's too late that I was one of the original Twerton Mill kids, and how darn cute my room and flat are! Hope you enjoyed it, even if it's not really your cup of tea or cup of coffee. Until next time...

It's been real,
B x

  5. Unless you have a documented reason, usually with a note from a doctor, it's pretty much impossible to get a single dorm room as a freshman.
