The Hoosiers

Heyo!

As most of you probably already know if you know me or have me on any form of social media - I went to Komedia in Bath last night with Emily and Tasmin to see The Hoosiers on their 10 year anniversary tour of their debut album The Trick To Life, and it was insane. I thought about doing a real review, but I am feeling so ill and rundown this is all about I can manage, so call it whatever you want, this is my experience at The Hoosiers last night!

We arrived at Komedia just after 8pm, missing the support act, local band Ulysses, who I had actually seen before. We weren't too fussed about seeing them as we had a late dinner and didn't want to rush the night at all. We got in and went as far to the front as possible, ending up two people away from the front barrier, a perfect spot to the left of centre for Emily to experience her first ever gig. Emily is one of the biggest Hoosiers fans I have ever seen, so me and Tasmin were determined she was going to have the best time we could give her!

At long last, after chanting from the crowd they came onstage and the crowd went crazy: whoops, woos and screams accompanied by a huge round of applause set the tone for the night - positive, lively, and game for a good time! They opened, as expected, with Worried About Ray, and the crowd went wild (myself, Emily and Tasmin included as documented by Tasmin on Facebook for the world to see, oh joys!) They followed through the rest of the album in full without deviating and saving best tracks for last like Kate Nash or The Fratellis, which was refreshing and meant everyone knew what was going on.

Tasmin captured me and Emily loving life, if you want to see more check out her Facebook, or mine, she's probably tagged and shamed me over there!
If you're familiar with the album, you'll know the bangers (single releases) are at the beginning, and the rest of the album is reflective, thoughtful and insightful. The album is relatively short, so once they played it all they left the stage, to be welcomed back momentarily with the crowd demanding 'ONE MORE SONG!', and played a further seven songs, including a Billy Joel cover of iconic 'We Didn't Start The Fire' which made us laugh. For context, they were talking about how venues like Komedia make them want to work towards community-based venues that get a say, and how it lights a fire under them to do more. Me and Tasmin jokingly said "oooh, that's a song! We didn't start the Fire!" and laughed, and then they actually started playing it, leaving us speechless, amused and loving every second! They also mixed their hit 'Up To No Good' with popular track 'Can't Feel My Face' by The Weeknd, which was so so good!

I had such an amazing time reliving my childhood, and hearing them do newer songs that I wasn't really fully familiar with, but loved all the same! At the end of the gig I saw a guy with Irwin's setlist (Irwin is the lead singer and guitarist), and told him it was my cousin's first gig and he gave it to me instead of someone else who asked, and he gave me Irwin's pick too! Emily was then able to meet the two last original members of the band, who signed her setlist and we got pictures of her with! I think we did a pretty good job, and we all had a spectacular time, I mean, I can't speak for the other two but I had such an amazing time and I am very sad it's all over - post-gig blues are REAL!

I love going to ten year anniversary tours, and I encourage you to go to any if it's a band you love. Reliving childhood me in that moment was spectacular, and I want to do it all over again already!
